OK, This will be a list of things we are ACTUALLY going to do.

Replace fuel line with vacuum line on previously split hose.
Water-tight cover for ECU.
Rain-X windshield, make sure wipers work, rig up fan or there anti-fog system.
Replace gasket on exhaust side of the downpipe
Give the entire engine a really good twice-over
Replace and wire a kill switch
repair coolant leak

Fix fuel gauge
Finish retheme
Change fluids

This is the list of things we'd LIKE to do

Cut off and weld flange onto muffler.
Buy and wire-up quick, disconnect headlights.  Wiring in crude blinkers would be wise as well.
cut back fender liners to reduce tire rub.
Repair EVAP system.
Waterproof rear spoiler.
Change Fluids
Retheme
remount splitter
chase down boost leaks
Install and wire headlights
wideband O2 sensor

Also, let's get a list together of everything that was broken/damaged and try to get a residual from Phil.

Dare we go chinese for a new MAF?

That depends, do you like sitting in the pits? A Chinese one might be ok for diagnostics, but I think racing one is iffy.

My thoughts are that we should wait and do the ecu upgrade after the race, I think we have plenty to keep us busy for this one.
Things to add to the list:
Wheel bearings
Fix read wheel noise
Wideband O2 sensor?
Wire tie exhaust bolts
Theme
Flush brake fluid
Compression and leak down test
Aftermarket diverter valve

Plans for this weekend:
Replace turbo gaskets
Replace MAF
Leak down/compression test
Should I toss the K04 in there while I'm working on it?

7Sonoma - December 6-7, 2014 Empty Re: Sonoma - December 6-7, 2014 Wed Sep 24, 2014 5:26 pm

Eric

Do you have all the parts you need? I will be in buttonwillow so I will not be able to wrench.
We don't need the K04, but more power is better unless we think it will decrease reliability. Do we think reliability will decrease or are we past the blown head gasket stage in our life?

After more thought I have decided if we are going to go with a big turbo we need to do it right. Also the made in China part scares me a little.

Sonoma is our race to win. Once we do that, we will go for unreliable and powerful.

I vote for non-chinese MAF as well.
We also should try to perform a boost leak test to make sure we have no other hidden intake hose issues.

11Sonoma - December 6-7, 2014 Empty Re: Sonoma - December 6-7, 2014 Wed Oct 01, 2014 10:25 pm

Alan

here is today's not exactly helpful update:
non-chinese MAF bought and installed
turbo gaskets replaced
diverter valve "fixed"
end results are that that the car still runs like shit, only builds 8psi of boost, and is throwing intermittent injector open circuit codes. Also the ABS module is fried, which as it turns out was why we couldn't use the VW teams code reader.

But never fear, I have a plan.
I bought one of those fancy VW code readers and found some software for it so we can now monitor and log just about everything that is going on in the ECU.
A new ECU should be here tomorrow
we have an extra wiring harness and set of injectors we can swap in
at some point I'll have to build a boost leak tester.

Large boost leak found and fixed
smaller boost leaks found with one left to fix

The car is much happier now

We are paid up for the race.

In order to save money and not have Cass have to renew his comp license, I will ask Jon to sign up as our 4th driver. Anyone see a problem with it?

14Sonoma - December 6-7, 2014 Empty Re: Sonoma - December 6-7, 2014 Fri Oct 10, 2014 9:37 am

Alan

I do, they aren't going to keep us from racing if our fourth driver doesn't have a comp license. Also $50 comp license < $75 crew fee

So we just don't have Cass check in at the track? And for some reason, I thought the license was $100. I agree with your logic.

They're not terribly cheap but we should really get some and I don't know if picknpull will be much cheaper. This is an easier option.
Alan, do you know if we have all the proper mounting points or do we need a new bumper too?

Today, Cass and I were able to knock out the following...
Engine oil & filter change
Transmission oil change
Rear differential oil change
Brake fluid flush
Replaced the brake control module electronic component with the spare
Reorganized spare parts in smaller bins

The plan is to have Marc take the car to a local exhaust shop to get it cut and put flanges on with a straight pipe. What else do we need to knock out from the previous lists?

Cut and reweld muffler
Prep windshield for rain

*Items for Theme:

The car has been Rain-X'd and packed for the race.

We still need a beer tap (if we are going through with that).  http://www.amazon.com/Draft-Faucet-Brass-Lever--Chrome/dp/B000BNZKVK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417458620&sr=8-1&keywords=beer+faucet
Should I order one and we plan on attaching a Racer 5 bottle and having an ice chest in the trunk with beer?

Schedule
Thursday night - Eric drives to track, gets a spot by the garages, and camps out.
Friday morning - Cass arrives at track, begin setting up the pit.  Eric drives home to bring the Audi.  Tech the car, and prep for race.  Finish theming, chase down vacuum leak, other things we forgot to do.  Alan shows up after work.
Saturday - Marc shows up early in the morning. Race.
Sunday - Win
Monday - Begin planning our assault on January's race

Sorry I blew up the turbo, but I think that we made improvements this race.  I hope the failure of the turbo was the race at Thunderhill putting uneccesary strain because of the intake holes and not running 16psi for 2.5hrs.  Anyways, I am already planning on the next race and started a conversation for it at http://fraidycatracing.niceboards.org/t100-sonoma-january-18-19.

If nobody objects, I am going to pay our fees for the next race.  Please submit any expenses that you had for this race.  I will try to compile the spreadsheet tonight.  If you gave me a receipt already, I will include it in the sheet.

As discussed at the race, Alan, I will be able to help prepare your garage with paint, lights, assemble shelving units, etc... so we can have a well equipped, clean, and organized Fraidy Cat Headquarters.

I think I spent the fuel cost I submitted a receipt for and $50 for my driver's fee. I owe the money for my shirts.

24Sonoma - December 6-7, 2014 Empty Re: Sonoma - December 6-7, 2014 Wed Dec 10, 2014 12:10 am

Eric

The numbers are tallied.  The spreadsheet is available at request and I just paid for the January race so I am including that in this collection.  Please pay up so I can start a new sheet.

Eric spent (including fees for 2 races) $3073.33
Alan spent $414.58
Cassidy spent $84.02

Therefore...
Alan owes Eric $796.06
Marc owes Eric $1,162.64
and Eric owes Cassidy $84.02 minus shirts at $12/shirt

And for your curiosity, the December race cost $2322.
